Strep Throat- What is it and What Causes it?

Last week, I’ve came down with a mild case of a throat illness called streptococcus, or strep throat. With so much rampant news going on about the coronavirus, which I wrote about last week, who knows how I contracted this illness.  All I know is that through treatments, I am feeling so much better.  But while I am a little familiar with the strep throat condition, I had to do more research to dig deeper into.

What is Strep Throat?

For those of you who don’t know, strep throat is a bacterial infection that causes a soar, scratchy throat.  The infection is generally transmitted through saliva contact such as sharing drinks or airborne respiratory droplets like coughing or sneezing.  There have been more than 3 million U.S. cases per year of the condition.

Some of the common symptoms include sore throat, fever and swollen lymph nodes in the neck.  Throat pain can occur while swallowing.  Thankfully, my case was mild because I didn’t have a fever or severe throat pain.

How you can remedy this condition?

There are several steps to take to nurse yourself back to good health.  The first one is getting adequate amounts of sleep.  That is paramount if you’re going to get rid of this condition.  Secondly, you must drink lots of water.  This will keep your throat lubricated and moist.  It also eases swallowing and prevents dehydration.  Also, you must take your antibiotics as prescribed.  Gargle with salt water and eat soothing foods.  Be sure to stay away from any irritants of your sore throat.

Spread Awareness

So with all this talk about COVID-19, I feel it is important to spread awareness of other similarly contagious illnesses, too.  Whether it is strep throat, coronavirus, the common cold, or the flu, we must educate ourselves on prevention and treatment options.  For more information on how you could do this, visit www.webmd.com.  Also, feel free to like or share this post.  You can leave a comment at the bottom as well.

  1. Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appeal. I must say you have done a amazing job with this. Also, the blog loads extremely fast for me on Opera. Superb Blog!
